Under the Waterfall.

"Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water."

Hebrews 10:22

I can hear the madness in the force of the waterfall. I can see the power and feel the frigid waters resulting from its determination to purify the water it is forcing into a new river. You can almost see the sediment being thrown down below to the bottoms of the earth to lay in peace.

Waterfalls purify the water as it flows into different rivers, and purification of water helps the various life forms in the water to live through provisions of oxygen. They help turn waste that litters the water into nutrients which helps plant life to grow. Because the nature around waterfalls is moist, farmers can easily cultivate their land. As if that was not enough, waterfalls are great for the eco system in ways of tree growth, keeping the system alive, and keeping water flow (which is needed) at a healthy level.

One report says, "Waterfalls also help in reducing stress and depression. The negative ions released causes calmness and this somehow alleviates the stress. The negative ions released by the waterfalls also help in purifying blood and thus people can live a healthy life without having blood that is not clean as well as improve on the cell metabolism in the body."

Every year we have gone on vacation to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland, we have visited the waterfall at the state park and swim in the icy water under the waterfall.

There is something so very cleansing and therapeutic about the deafening beat of its water onto the calm of the river that is below. When you look further down the river, it is as still as a child in a deep slumber.

Friends, the Word of God is like a waterfall that cleanses our souls, and keeps us alive in Christ. It helps us understand who purifies us, and gives us the tools we need to live a life that is full to the brim. The Word of God, like the waterfall, gives us inexplicable peace and fruitful nutrients.

As you walk into this next week, sit under the waterfall of God and allow him to cleanse you and make you alive in him. Listen to his Word with humility, and bask in the silence that is the river after it has been cleansed. For you, too, are being made to grow in the light of his Word.
